MLB Opening Day: Detroit Tigers' 25-man roster vs. Minnesota Twins
Opening Day is finally here for the Detroit Tigers -- the reigning American League Central Division champions -- who take on the Minnesota Twins at 4:10 p.m. Monday EST (Target Field, Minneapolis).
By now, you've probably forgotten that the Tigers were swept by the San Francisco Giants in the 2012 World Series (well, after reading that last sentence, you're now reminded of it). This year's team has a healthier Victor Martinez at its disposal, along with new MoTowner, Torii Hunter.
Justin Verlander will likely be with the Tigers for life after signing a five-year extension worth up to $202 million, and Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera is primed for another explosive season. Add in Prince Fielder, who enters his second year in Detroit, and the Tigers look like they'll once again be a team to beat.
In case you're wondering who's available for Monday's clash with the Twins, the 25-man roster will be posted below (via MLive.com Tigers beat writer Chris Iott).
Pitchers: Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Doug Fister, Anibal Sanchez, Rick Porcello, Joaquin Benoit, Octavio Dotel, Phil Coke, Al Alburquerque, Brayan Villareal, Darin Downs and Drew Smyly
Position players: Austin Jackson, Torii Hunter, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Victor Martinez, Andy Dirks, Jhonny Peralta, Alex Avila, Omar Infante, Brayan Pena, Ramon Santiago, Matt Tuiasosopo and Don Kelly
