It's pretty early in the 2013 MLB season. Guys are bound to experience a bit of an adjustment period, even uber-humans like Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander.

Yahoo! Sports Jeff Passan recently published an article that suggests that Verlander's power outage may be more than a simple drop in velocity. Passan points out that, yes, it's a bit premature to say that Verlander is having a "down" year. But his analysis via advanced statistics is quite interesting, nonetheless.

Passan cites numbers that prove that Verlander's fastball is down a couple mph. No big deal, right? An AL scout had Verlander as high as 94, while an NL scout had Verlander topping out at 96.
